Duradim Books

Two pens. One world.

Jared Lovelady and Christopher Howald spent almost twenty years toying with a story. Then they put it on the page, and invited a family of illustrators and an editor into the workshop.

The other half of the conversation. Jared writes The Chronicles of Duradim with Chris and hosts The Creator's Guild with him every week — the public face of a partnership that used to live only in kitchens and long drives. When the story finally demanded a manuscript, he was in the room. He still is.

Christopher Howald

Christopher Howald

Co-author · Professional weirdo

From the Busy World of Richard Scarry to a tesseract in A Wrinkle in Time, stories have always shaped Chris's life. His sister handed him L'Engle in third grade; sci-fi and fantasy arrived overnight. Recreating movie plots, roleplaying battles, hairbrained ideas among friends — he has always been a story creator.

That itch wandered through construction and home design, a mechanical engineering degree, and systems and automation work. The desire to make stories persisted until he and Jared finally put pen to paper on the world they'd been toying with for almost twenty years.

Tenth child in a family of twenty-one — twelve girls, nine boys, no twins. Perhaps being a middle-among-middles created a need for attention, or maybe he's  just always weird.  Whatever the cause, he does not shy away from sharing his weirdness and inviting others to come along for the ride.    His typical morning quote : “Sometimes I say to myself, ‘Self, you're amazing.’”
